Bandoneon
Simone Tolomeo, born in Palermo in 1985, is an Italian composer, bandoneonist and pianist. Trained in piano and composition at the Palermo Conservatory, he discovered the bandoneon during a stay in Argentina, where he studied with Federico Pereiro, Rodolfo Mederos and Juan José Mosalini. He performed in such Buenos Aires landmarks as Café Tortoni and Usina del Arte, and collaborated with such orchestras as the Fabián Bertero Big Band and Ramiro Gallo’s Orquesta Arquetípica. Now based in Paris, he is studying contemporary composition at the Schola Cantorum under Nicolas Bacri. Tolomeo is also artistic director of the ConTempo ensemble, dedicated to contemporary music, and has composed several works, including a quintet for piano and strings and a sonatina for piano. His career illustrates a fusion of European and South American musical traditions.
